Zombie Animals
Zombie Animals is a National Geographic series that dives into the strange and often shocking world of parasites, viruses, and fungi that take control of their animal hosts. Hosted by Dan O’Neill, the show explores these mind-bending wildlife phenomena with curiosity and humour, showing that nature can be beautiful, bizarre, and a little terrifying all at once.
For Zombie Animals, I developed a visual style that captured the show’s slightly eerie, educational vibe without feeling scary. Drawing inspiration from old educational films, the promo was grade to have a subtle projector flicker, soft film grain, and a vintage classroom look to make the strange science of parasites, viruses, and fungi feel approachable and engaging. This style then became the foundation for the overall campaign, guiding all clip-based content and the bespoke channel idents we created to run throughout the series.
Channel Idents
As the programme aired during Halloween week, we had the opportunity to tailor our channel idents to match its theme. I created two 5-second idents that shared the same look and feel as the promo, keeping the visual style cohesive across the campaign. The tricky part was that we couldn’t use any programme footage, so every microscopic organisms was designed and animated from scratch. It was a fun challenge to recreate these elements and make them look as realistic as possible.
